STATMENT REGARDING ITEMS WHICH FALL UNDER WIZARDS OF THE COAST INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

Naturally, with the amount of interest my pieces are gathering, I wanted to clarify a question I get asked often, namely, "Will <monster name> be available to buy/in your etsy shop/available to commission"

The short, and unfortunate answer is no. The looks and names of unique, iconic monsters from Dungeons and Dragons are property of Wizards of the Coast. As a small, individual artisan, I'm in no position to ask their parent company, Hasbro, for a license, no matter how much people love what I do. I could make and sell individual pieces as an artisan, and probably fly under the radar for a bit, but eventually, lawyers will send me a Cease and Desist, or could even sue me. Also I don't want to disrespect the creators of Dungeons and Dragons, as they work hard at making a product for the world to enjoy.

I am also loath to release the patterns. Whilst a pattern is my work and I have ownership of that, the IP of the item created from it is going to still be a murky area. I've already had experience in this field, having released a pattern many years ago of a monster from Doctor Who. Although I wasn't selling the pattern, and the folks at the BBC loved my work and are fully supportive of fan creations, someone was misusing my patterns and selling both them and finished items made from them. They had to issue me with a Cease and Desist, and I pulled the pattern and have never re-released it, which I know many people were upset about.

So what *can* I do? Well, if you have an Original Character that doesn't infringe IP, great! You can commission me to make that for you by contacting me via the Etsy link above. You can also ask me to make you a dicebag, or a d20 toy, or a plushie that doesn't have IP restrictions. Or you can take a browse at the things I have in my etsy shop. I've been busy with other projects so there isn't much there at the moment, but I have some exciting ideas for items I want to make and stock throughout 2018.

Thank you for your understanding!
